Fire Prevention

Carbon Monoxide

Are you protected by smoke and carbon monoxide alarms?

  • In 34% of fatal home fires there is no smoke alarm warning. Install smoke alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
  • Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.

If your CO alarm sounds, leave your home immediately and call 9-1-1. Learn more about carbon monoxide safety and protect you and your family.

For more information contact the Cavan Monaghan Fire Department 705-932-2765.

Smoke Alarms

  • Have working Smoke Alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
  • If your home has a fuel-burning appliance or an attached garage, install a Carbon Monoxide Alarm adjacent to each sleeping area.
  • The Cavan Monaghan Fire Department provides fire safety inspections upon complaint or request. Members of the public wishing an inspection can contact the Fire Department at 705-932-9344.

Home escape planning

  • Ensure your family is prepared should a fire start in your home by preparing a home escape plan and practice it with every member of your family.
