Notice of Public Information Centre Township of Cavan Monaghan Reconstruction of Main Street

The Township of Cavan Monaghan is planning to reconstruct Main Street and adjacent side streets (Sowden, Charles and Marshall Street) as shown on the plan below. The study area currently has a rural cross section with numerous drainage issues and poor pavement condition. The water and drainage infrastructure in the study area is nearing the end of its service life and requires replacement in order to provide reliable services to residents. The purpose of this project is to replace the watermain and to reconstruct the road.

A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Cavan Monaghan Municipal Office Council Chambers, located at 988 County Road 10, Millbrook, ON. The purpose of this PIC is to provide information about the proposed scope of the project, present plans showing the proposed improvements and to receive input about any local issues within the study area. The PIC will be a drop-in format with displays showing proposed work. Staff from the Township and the Consultant will be on hand to answer any questions. Subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals, the
Township intends to proceed with the construction of this project in the spring/summer of 2023.

As part of this project the Township will be replacing the watermain and all water services within the road allowance. Water services within the road allowance will be replaced with a PEX (polyethylene) material. It is recommended that homeowners with copper water services extending onto private property consider replacing the remainder of the water service with PEX during watermain replacement. Copper water services are prone to corrosion from acidic soils and scale build up within the pipe. Homeowners will be responsible for the cost of installation on private property. Having a Contractor onsite for the road reconstruction will provide an opportunity for cost savings on installation should you desire to do so. During construction, if any existing storm water/sump pump service connections are found to be discharging to the existing sanitary sewer, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to relocate the discharge.
