Millbrook Legion Banner Program

Legion Logo

The Royal Canadian Legion, Millbrook, Branch 402, is launching its 2025 Honour our Veterans Banner Program.  The Veterans Banner Program recognizes and honours our local Veterans, deceased and active service members or Veterans who have served or are currently serving in the Canadian, Allied or Commonwealth Forces that have a tie to Millbrook. This could include those born in Millbrook, those who have resided, or currently reside in Millbrook, or those who have a close connection to the area.

As a community that supports and honours its Veterans through community and school activities, this program will put a face on the names of Remembrance and keep their legacy alive. The 24” x 48”, full colour 2 sided banners (see sample below) will include a photo and name of the veteran, military affiliation and the banner sponsor and they will be proudly displayed throughout our beautiful downtown area of Millbrook from Legion Week in September up until the week following Remembrance Day, November 11th. Because the banners are purchased by sponsors, they will own them. However, they will be stored at our Legion so that they can be displayed at the Branch from time to time and be kept together and easily available for mounting and removal around town each year.

Legion membership by the honouree or the sponsor is not a requirement for participation in the program.

Information to be provided and included on all banners:

  • Era Served – the following choices would be suitable: WWI, WWII, Korean War, Afghanistan, Peacekeeping, Regular Forces, and Reserve Forces. Years of service will not be included for consistency, simplicity and clarity's sake.
  • Branch of Service – Army, Air Force, Navy
  • Rank – ranks will not be part of the banners as we want all Veterans to be recognized as equals
  • Photograph – Photos are to be submitted in a high resolution 5” x 7” (minimum size) portrait style photo of the person in uniform. Digital photos in pdf or similar format of 300 dpi or better can also be submitted. Should a picture of the veteran not be available an appropriate image (a kneeling soldier in front of the Canadian flag) can be substituted so that a banner can still be provided.
  • Name of the sponsor – Family, friends and community sponsors are suitable.
  • Flags – All banners include the same flags of Canada and Britain, even if they served for another allied country. The Veterans being honoured in Millbrook all have a tie to the community and therefore will be honoured under the flags of this nation.
  • Community Partner Logos - RCL Branch 402 and the Township of Cavan Monaghan and the Millbrook BIA are all partners in our project, and will therefore be included.
  • Biography – Sponsors may also submit a short biography of the veteran along with the application. Information provided may include date and location of birth and death, as applicable, along with where and the years the veteran served and will be recorded with banner information as background.

For participation in the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program, please mail or deliver the completed attached application (link below), along with a picture and sponsorship cheque of $190 made payable to:

RCL Branch 402, noting “Honour Our Veterans Banner” on the memo line, to the Millbrook Legion office at 9 King Street, Millbrook ON, L0A 1G0, Attention: Deborah White-Hassell.

Applications and digital pictures may also be submitted to Deborah at dwhitehassell@gmail.com.

Deadline for applications will be June 1, 2025, to allow ample time for the production of the banners to be mounted for Legion Week, September 2025.

Through the displaying of the banners, we hope to engage the community in honouring and remembering local Veterans through an initiative that will ensure continued recognition and respect throughout future generations. This will be an ongoing legacy project that will pay tribute to all Canadian and Allied Veterans and active service members.
