Meet Your Volunteer Match in Cavan on Oct. 23

Volunteer Peterborough invites residents and non-profit groups to attend its Meet Your Match Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 23. More than 25 organizations have been invited to set up booths that day to share details about how to get involved in their causes.

The event takes place at the Cavan Community Centre from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Visitors can drop in for free after school, before dinner or after work.

The fair builds on the momentum created by VolunteerPeterborough.ca, a match-making website between volunteers and agencies. It aligns individuals’ interests and skills with current opportunities. To date, more than 1,200 volunteers and 160 organizations interact on the site.

“After hosting a wildly successful event in the city, we decided to branch out into Cavan and Selwyn Townships,” says Lois Tuffin, Chair of Volunteer Peterborough’s Board of Directors. “This event aims to introduce more people to organizations that operate close to home and to open their eyes to how they can make a difference.”

This project is generously funded by Ontario Power Generation (OPG)’s Power for Change Project. “Our organization thrives on harnessing the power of individuals to make their communities better, so this is a perfect fit,” Tuffin says. “We are grateful to have OPG’s support so we can support more organizations who rely on volunteers to run their programs in Millbrook, Cavan, Bailieboro, Fraserville, Ida, Mount Pleasant, Springville and anywhere in between.”

Any non-profit within the Township is welcome to set up a table on Oct. 23 for $100, which includes dinner. To book a booth today, email volunteer@volunteerpeterborough.ca.

Volunteer Peterborough is an online and in-person volunteer match-making service created in 2023. It is aligned with the Peterborough Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, Age-friendly Peterborough, the County of Peterborough, Telecare Peterborough and additional partners.
