Friday the 13th was no concern for Councilors for the Township of Cavan Monaghan and Peterborough County who celebrated the annual harvest time with a Long Table Dinner in Millbrook. Entitled the Harvest Table Dinner, the event was sponsored in part by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and the Cortel Group along with a host of other benefactors.

“The Harvest Table Dinner is not only a celebration of our strong agricultural background, but a celebration of our community, says Mayor Matthew Graham. “Thanks to all of our sponsors who have been part of the fabric of our community for many years.”

Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for OLG, Michelle Eaton along with Senior Municipal Relations Manager Kathleen Devine, and Municipal and Government Relations Manager Karen Smiley and Bryan Buchanan, Regional Vice President of Operations for Great Canadian Entertainment were on hand to present a cheque for $324,499.00. The sum represents an annual payment as per the Municipality Contribution Agreement for hosting Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs.

“Our relationship with OLG goes back almost twenty-five (25) years,” said Graham. In that time OLG has provided over sixty-one million ($61M) dollars that have helped us complete numerous capital projects, most recently the Cavan Monaghan Community Centre and the Public Works Operations Centre. As our community continues to grow, it is imperative that we are able to provide services to meet their needs.”

“Each and every year, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial and local priorities,” said Michelle Eaton, OLG’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs. “OLG’s profits are hard at work in the Township of Cavan Monaghan and all across our province to build stronger communities. OLG is proud to see how the Township is making investments in critical local infrastructure and vital municipal programs that benefit all its residents. Much appreciation goes to the employees at Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs whose contributions are also helping make the community that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”

Graham also thanked representatives from the Cortel Group who co-sponsored the event. “Mario and his team have been supporting the development of our community for many years. Their commitment to building exceptional communities is why so many people want to call Cavan Monaghan their home.”

The Millpond and historic Needler’s Mill served as a backdrop to this outdoor event. Diners feasted on a host of local foods prepared by SKH Catering and served by Cavan Monaghan Staff and members of Council. Windy Ridge, a local band from City of Kawartha Lakes provided entertainment.

The event was also supported by: Valdor Engineering, Frontop Engineering, Cambium Engineering, Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden, Bromont Homes, Pristine Homes, Veltri Group and Mortlock Construction.
