Regulating Cannabis in the Township

Please note: Due to inclement weather the Regular Council for January 17, 2022 has been postponed until January 24, 2022.  The 2nd Public Meeting regarding Cannabis in the Township will be held January 24, 2022.

The Township of Cavan Monaghan has retained Meridian Consulting (the consultant) to review the current Zoning By-law and Official Plan policies and develop a set of policy, planning tools and amendments with respect to Regulating Cannabis in the Township of Cavan Monaghan.

Meridian Consulting presented an initial background report to Council December 21, 2020.  A  technical update to that work was presented to Council September 20, 2021.  Council provided direction to the consultant on the preferred option to be presented at a public meeting (open house) in October 2021.

Meridian Consulting and the Township of Monaghan hosted an Open House, Monday October 18, 2021 ( via Zoom) to provide an overview of the background information, Council’s preferred option and to respond to questions from the public and receive feedback.

You can watch the meeting in its entirety on the Township YouTube Channel: Township  of Cavan Monaghan.

A statutory public meeting required under The Planning Act was held Monday December 20th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.  The Consultant presented proposed Official Plan amendment and Zoning By-law amendments regulating Cannabis in the Township to Council for consideration.  The full meeting can be viewed on the Township's YouTube Channel.

A second public meeting will be held Monday January 24, 2022 at 1 p.m.

Anyone wishing to speak to the application at the public meeting, please contact the Clerk by email at cpage@cavanmonaghan.net  no later than 4:00 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled meeting and you will be provided with an invitation to join the meeting using your computer or phone.

The Township is using Zoom for electronic meetings and it is the responsibility of the interested member of the public to have technology in place to connect to the meeting. Any person may “attend” the electronic/virtual public meeting and/or make a verbal or written representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed Official Plan, Zoning and Site Plan Control By-law Amendments.

If you are unable to “attend” the meeting, written submissions may be submitted and should include a request for further notice, if desired.
