Earth Day Event
The Township of Cavan Monaghan will be hosting their first event celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A free event, Earth Day will take place in the Community Hall at the Cavan Monaghan Community Centre.
Led by the Township’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, the event has an exciting line-up of vendors who can provide information and resources on a wide range of climate friendly actions to enable residents and businesses to make informed environmentally friendly choices.
High quality plastic rain barrels will be available to purchase for only $30 (while supplies last).
In late fall, the Township partnered with Home Hardware to offer a weatherstripping kit to assist residents in making their homes more energy efficient. Kits are available to purchase for $10 at the Township office (while supplies last).
The Township will be launching a tree planting project at the Earth Day Event. Residents can pre-order potted trees from variety of native species for $10/tree. Click here for a full list of available species.

Christina Rennich |
Christina is a local resident and a native plant consultant, helping homeowners and businesses bring native plants into their gardens to create biodiversity stepping stones. Christina is also undergoing certification with "Gardenary" a business that certifies garden coaches, and whose goal is to encourage citizens to grow some of their own food. She also is a volunteer with David Suzuki's Butterflyway Project. |

Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) is a dynamic land conservation charity. Their mission is to care for the lands entrusted to them and help others protect the land they love in the Kawarthas. They create nature reserves for future generations by acquiring ecologically important properties and/or interests in properties. They also enhance their stewardship of the land by engaging landowners in land care initiatives through their Partners in Conservation program. Founded in 2001, KLT protects 44 properties that include more than 8,100 acres of ecologically diverse lands, some of which include hiking trails that introduce thousands of people to nature in the Kawarthas every year. KLT works within the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig Territory and we are dedicated to continuing to create meaningful connections and relationships with First Nations communities in our region as we build upon these connections. |
