Flood Warning extended for the Trent-Severn Waterway in the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Message 2026-12: Issued 10:00 a.m., Thursday April 23, 2026
The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority has extended the Flood Warning for the Trent-Severn Waterway in the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation. Flooding of low-lying, flood-prone areas along the Trent-Severn Waterway is imminent or occurring and expected to continue. The Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety downgraded from a Flood Watch for local watercourses within the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Over the past several days, the Haliburton-Reservoir Lakes and local regions have received little to no rainfall. Forecasts suggest minimal amounts of rainfall over the next week.
High volumes of water from the Haliburton-Reservoir Lakes region continue to be managed through the Trent-Severn Waterway (Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River, Rice Lake, and Trent River to Hastings). In the next few days, water levels are expected to stabilize at the current flood stage. Flows will continue at hazardous levels.
Water levels and flows on all local watercourses have begun to recede. The forecasted rainfall will have minimal impact on water levels. However, the fast-moving cold water and slippery or unstable shorelines can be hazardous. Otonabee Conservation advises residents to stay away from shorelines, dams, and culverts and postpone water-based recreational activities.
Municipalities, Indigenous communities, local water managers, emergency services and individual landowners along the shores of the Trent-Severn Waterway are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and their properties against flooding. Close monitoring of local weather forecasts and water levels is recommended. Water levels can be monitored at Trent-Severn Waterway, Water Survey of Canada and Otonabee Conservation websites.
This Flood Warning and Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety message will expire Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 3:00p.m. unless up-dated earlier.
